Sounds recorded from around London’s green spaces (Croydon, Hampstead, Kennington). Includes traffic noises, bird and squirrel calls, human conversation, footsteps, spring storms, dripping water. Some parts are loud and sharp so adjust volume as needed.
until further notice was a mixed media installation created for my degree show in July 2022. The room was filled with handknit sculptures, found objects, natural and synthetic materials, along with a wheatpasted mural of mosses, lichens, and frolicking figures (including Peter Andre). I also riso printed a zine and created a room fragrance using oakmoss absolute. All of this is a presentation of my wide-ranging research into Croydon’s green spaces, mythologies of race, material history of knitting, and sensory cultures of Orientalism.
This page documents the original installation, so you can browse images of the room while listening to the soundwork. Alternatively, you can play ‘Mysterious Girl’ by Peter Andre. And if you are so inclined, you can wear your favourite oakmoss-based perfume while doing this.
View a digital version of the zine here. (You will learn more about lichens and Peter Andre.)
